Just a quick update to inform you of how the yellow jacket war turned out. On Saturday night Greg took a heavy glass bowl and covered the yellow jacket hive in the ground. The idea was it would trap them so they couldn’t get out to get food or resources.
Saturday afternoon, they were not happy. They spent quite a bit of time ramming their bodies into the glass. Then because Greg is sadistic, he kept putting his hand on the bowl and tapping the glass. They really hated that. This went on for two days.
By Tuesday we didn’t see any more yellow jackets, but we could see a few carcases. We left the bowl there just to be safe, but we haven’t seen any since Monday afternoon. So conclusion? Heavy glass bowl over the opening of the hive=no more yellow jackets after forty-eight hours.
How about that? It was free, easy, and non-toxic. Can’t go wrong there.
